A manageable plan for starting or returning to Genshin Impact
Pick a quest, build around the characters you have, and give each farming run a purpose. You can learn the systems without making every session a checklist.

Genshin Impact can make a returning player feel late to a journey they were already taking. There are quest markers, character menus, event notices, and materials with names you no longer remember. A new player encounters the same pile gradually. Either way, trying to clear every notification in one evening is an easy way to lose track of what brought you back.
Choose a quest you want to return to, then check the party you will take into it. If fights have been frustrating, give your next upgrade a clear purpose before heading out. You can get back into the adventure without reorganizing your entire account first.
Follow one thread through the quest list
Choose a quest you want to continue and read its prerequisites. If progress is blocked, complete the required step rather than opening several unrelated stories at once. A short note about where you stopped can make the next session easier, especially if there will be a week between visits.
When exploring, mark something you cannot solve yet instead of immediately searching for a complete route. You may be missing a tool, an element, or a piece of context. Returning with the right solution is part of the exploration. A map pin lets you keep going without trying to remember which cliff held the puzzle.
Give a journey a local destination. Open a route toward the next quest, investigate one nearby area, then return to the story. You can follow an interesting detour, but you do not need to empty the region before allowing yourself to move on.
Learn the characters already in your party
Read each character's skill and burst descriptions. Pay attention to what remains after switching characters, what needs field time, and which effects require a particular action. Four characters who all want to stay active can be awkward to use together even if each looks powerful in isolation.

Choose a simple sequence and practice it against ordinary enemies. Apply one character's effect, switch, use the next ability, and watch what changes. The in-game tutorials and HoYoWiki's tutorial index are useful references for reactions you have encountered. Start with an interaction you can repeat rather than trying to memorize every possible reaction at once.
