Grand Theft Auto VI follows Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos through a criminal conspiracy in the fictional state of Leonida. Rockstar's setup starts with an easy job going wrong. Their relationship sits at the center of the story: getting through the fallout means trusting someone whose own past is hardly simple.

The character profiles give that premise some weight. Jason has worked for drug runners in the Keys after a stint in the Army. Lucia has recently left prison and wants a more comfortable life for herself and her family.

Vice City returns, but Leonida reaches beyond its beachfront and nightlife. Rockstar also names the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga. Following those places is a useful way to read the reveal material: the setting includes smaller communities and rural areas as well as the city people remember.

What the announcements can tell you

The appeal is easy to understand if you enjoy crime stories that give you a place to explore between missions. A city can be as interesting for its radio, traffic, and local personalities as for the next objective marker. That is the kind of experience many returning GTA players will be looking for; how convincingly this game delivers it still needs to be judged after release.

Trailers and screenshots establish characters, locations, and a visual direction. They cannot settle the questions that matter during a long session: mission variety, the feel of driving, performance in crowded areas, or how often the story lets you take a detour. Keep those questions open when comparing the game with something you can already buy.

Before making launch plans

As checked on October 7, 2026, Rockstar lists November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. GTA VI has not released yet. A PC release date is not listed on the official game page, so a console announcement should not become a PC countdown.

Use the official page to check the platform and edition you want before ordering. If your decision depends on frame rate, accessibility, or a particular online feature, wait for specific documentation or finished-game coverage. A trailer is a good reason to be curious; it leaves plenty to learn.
