How it plays, who it suits and where to start.
Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG set in Teyvat. You play the Traveler, looking for a lost sibling while becoming involved in the affairs of the places you visit. Quests provide a route through that world, but exploration gives you plenty of reasons to step away from the route: a puzzle, a climb, a ruin, or a path you have not followed yet.
Movement is part of the attraction. Climbing, swimming, and gliding make the landscape something to navigate, rather than scenery passed on the way to the next fight. Give yourself time to look around when a new area opens. Trying to clear every marker in one visit can make an inviting place feel like paperwork.
In solo play, you form a party of up to four characters and switch between them. Their elemental abilities matter in combat and in environmental puzzles. The seven elements include Pyro, Hydro, Electro, Anemo, Dendro, Cryo, and Geo; combining their effects is part of learning how a team works.
Think about the sequence of a fight, rather than choosing four characters only because each looks strong alone. Who starts it, who provides an effect for the next character, and who needs time on the field? Try an ability combination against ordinary enemies before building an entire team around it.
For a new account, concentrate upgrades on a manageable group you enjoy using. Read what an ability asks for and test it. A recommendation written for a fully equipped character may leave out the reason it works, so use guides to answer a specific problem in your own party.
Genshin suits players who like a long-running fantasy story, character-focused combat, and wandering between objectives. Its main campaign is a single-player journey, with co-op available for parts of the experience. Check what you want to do together before expecting a friend to share every quest step.
The game is free to start, with optional purchases that include random items. Before using currency on a Wish, read that Wish's in-game details and decide what you are prepared to spend. Getting a new character and learning to use the characters you already have are separate goals.
If you arrive after years of updates, choose one story or region to follow first. There is no need to turn the full backlog into an urgent assignment. A satisfying session can be one completed quest and one unexplored hill.
